Aztecs Falcons 35 – Yateley Silverbacks 52
(9-12; 17-29; 25-42; 35-52)
Becky Wellington and Tim Tostevin 7; Tom Dawkes 6; Iain Rogers 5
A loss in the new season opener was a disappointment, but as ever the Falcons did not give up, and battled hard to the end. The first period was lost by just 3, and the last period was a 10-all draw; a 2-15 spell in the second period and 1-16 at the end of the third were the key periods and that is where the game was lost. Thanks to Nick Giles for helping out Iain Rogers with the coaching duties.
No-one managed to hit double figures – Tim Tostevin and Becky Wellington headed the points scorers with 7 apiece. Apart from the two phases highlighted where the Falcons lost 3-31 in 18 minutes play they actually had the better of the game, winning the remaining 22 minutes 32-21.
Coach Giles’s assessment:
The Silverbacks were not as dominant as the score suggests – they did, however, spread the scoring about with nine of their ten players getting in the points. The Falcons played well at times but must stay switched on for the full 40 minutes if they are to win more games this season.
