MASTERS BASKETBALL

MASTERS BASKETBALL

Two players with connections to the Aztecs have been taking part in the 15th FIMBA World Maxibasketball Championships being held in Espoo near Helsinki.

The global event, held every two years by FIMBA (Federation of International Masters Basketball), attracted over 5000 active basketball participants from 40 countries. Over 400 teams took part at a variety of age categories from 35+, with five men’s teams taking part in the 80+ category!

Becky Wellington was at Marjons in Plymouth with her now husband Rod Wellington and his mate Dean Williams – both of whom played for the Thames Valley Tigers in the BBL back in the day.  Dean taught maths as Sandhurst School and now teaches at a school in the UAE. He is representing his adopted country in the 40+ age group.

Our own Axel Jahnke, the Lemmings Players’ Player of the Year last season has been representing Germany.

Details of how they got on to follow…..
