Match summary:

The Falcons went into this knock-out match against Div 2 ‘Backs 2’s with just nine players, finished with seven fit ones, conceded a huge height disadvantage and eventually lost by 43, but that does not tell the whole story. The improvement the team has made in the last year was evident once again as the Falcons defence was much tougher, the players once again looked after the ball much better and also executed some nice plays.

The Falcons will win games before long as the team spirit is terrific, the understanding is developing all the time and the determination to improve is absolute.

Key stats:

Yateley shot the ball superbly all night, with the trio of former EP students (Green, Tomlin and Darke) combining for 53 of the visitors 77 points (69%), converting on the break, from inside and from long range. This is something for the Falcons to aspire to!

For the home side Tom Dawkes capped his best performance for the team with eight points, Justin Hopley made two long range shots to take him to seven, Matt Blowfield scored for the seventh game running while Becky Wellington got in the points for the eight time this season.

Coach Walker’s assessment:

The terrific effort put in by all the players was great to witness. Unfortunately, with just seven players by the end the energy levels dropped considerably coming down the stretch as everyone gave their all and worked so hard on defence that there was little to give at the offensive end. Several key points were covered in the game, adding to the players’ understanding of the game, and Jack Parker started to show his team mates what he can do in the post, and this performance should fill him with encouragement as he awaits surgery on his troublesome knee.

We all wish team sec Dan Warren all the best as he embarks on recovery from his badly sprained ankle; his new ball sneakers will be waiting for him in the new year when he returns to fitness.

Next game:

Tuesday 4th December 2018 at 7:30pm at home to Windsor Warriors 2 in Div 3
