Match summary:

The Falcons had some very encouraging phases in this game but three runs by the Phantoms made the difference. A 12-point run which took the hosts from 13-11 to 25-11; the end of the third and start of the fourth which was won 19-6 and the last phase of the game which Phantoms took 17-0.

The Falcons used the game as an opportunity to run some different offensive plays and to try out some defensive systems, and it gave Mike Church his first outing in the league and Matt Blowfield a rare chance due to his work commitments.

Key stats:

Farnborough made 9 three-pointers to the solitary ‘downtowner’ from Becky Wellington. The Falcons made 6 of 7 free throws (at 86%), with the Falcons only miss being from….Becky Wellington!

Coach Walker’s assessment:

The best play made by the Falcons in the past three years came at the start of the second half when a 34 second offence, which included a scintillating series of passes and a rebounded missed shot, was finished off by Matt Sawyer. The same player scored Falcon’s next two baskets, including an excellent move to the hole appreciated by the whole team. Despite the defeat the spirit is still good and the expectations remain high; a training session before Tuesday’s encounter with the Silverbacks will be of huge benefit to the team.

Next Falcons action:

Tuesday 28th January:                    Div 3 game HOME against Yateley Silverbacks 3s at 7:30pm

(training session from 6.30pm)

Thursday 6th February:                  Training at Wellington College 7.45 – 10.00pm
