Match summary:
With a strong end to the 2017/18 season, the Suns were in a good position to kick on for the new season. With some losses to the squad both from injury, maternity and geography the team is running on a core group of 7 with additions from the Storm and Cobra juniors.
The game started well, with some strong performances inside from Silvia and Charlotte. We ran the majority of the game with a 10 point lead, and only in the last few minutes did it ever waiver.
Coach Trinder’s assessment:
There are areas for improvement; boxing out and rebounding is an areas we are not consistent enough in, and ensuring we read the game situation and adjust accordingly. It got too tight in the final 2 minutes because we rushed our offence and didn’t run the clock down knowing we were in the lead.
With a win there are of course many positives. Some good shooting from Clair and Ellie outside both totally 9 points each. Charlotte made 8 and Silvia 10 which is a strong inside partnership for the Suns.
There was also a strong return from maternity from Laura Bartley, an exciting addition to our setup for this season that will make the Suns a tough team to beat inside. I’d like to also thank Monique and Eddi who came along from Cobra juniors – both excellent additions to today’s game.
Next game:
Thursday 18th October away to Winchester Angels in the Richard Bell Cup. League action doesn’t return until November so we are then back to training to continue the hard work.
