Suns 49 – 50 Aldworth Arrows Academy – Match Report

Wessex Ladies Division 2 League Game

Aztecs Suns 49-50 Aldworth Arrows Academy (12-11, 19-19, 37-34)

The Suns suffered a heartbreaking 1 point loss against the Aldworth Arrows Academy at Wellington on Sunday 12th November in what was their highest scoring game (by 10 points) this season.

Leading scorers– Charlotte, Nynke (9), Becca (8), Clair, Emma (7), Jen (6), Nicky (3)

Coach Amanda’s assessment– We have gone from gaps of 10-15 points in games, to just 1 or 2. This is much quicker progress than last season and we have to hold on to that as we get ready for the plate game, and the rest of the league campaign.

The area of focus is defensively – understanding the main threats and not switching off to enable a run of scoring which happened 3 times yesterday. I also want us to work on understanding when we have the beating of a player and driving around them – going to basket. We also need to work on looking up when we transition to offence and pushing the ball up the court.

Key stat– This was the Sun’s fourth consecutive game of the season where the game was decided by 2 or less points (1-3 record)

Next game –Away against Camberley Goldhawks Ladies on 21st November at Collingwood College. Tip-off is at 8:15pm
