Match Report – Lemmings v Kennet Kingfishers

Lemmings fall narrowly short in defeat to the Kingfishers 52-53

A much strengthened Lemmings took to the court on Tuesday with full debuts from Axel andfirst outings as official Lemmings from the twin peaks of Gareth and Gavin.

A competitive first quarter saw some good rotation and offensive rebounds but ultimately we trailed. However, after a rousing first quarter break team talk from Coach Deacon the Lemmings got into their stride and dominated the second quarter to lead 32 -22.

A particular highlight was a breathless period of play which culminated in Gareth sinking a ‘three’ with Coach Walker looking on from the table like a proud Dad. John should be commended for not going back into EP PE teacher mode and was persuaded to not stop the game to praise the superb teamwork on display. Unfortunately the third old EP’ian didn’t get the memo and gave away a needless unsportsmanlike foul and some further team turnovers and missed shots, meant were behind after the third quarters. However some great offensive play by Marco and team defense meant the game was tight to the end.

A much improved team display did not ultimately end in the win, but Lemmings should be optimistic as we enter the Plate as a dangerous opponent for anyone.
